Find out what your why is

What Your Why is

I recently had a session with a client who expressed a desire to improve her writing skills. Curious about her deeper motivations, I asked her why this goal was important to her. She revealed that her aim was to craft a compelling resume and acceptance letter for medical school applications. This led to a deeper discussion about her underlying aspirations, where she shared a desire to gain her parents' approval by marrying a doctor.

This conversation was a perfect illustration of the importance of understanding the 'why' behind our desires. In life coaching, we employ techniques like reflective questioning to help clients explore their true values and aspirations. For instance, by asking open-ended questions, we encourage clients to reflect on their deeper motivations and what they truly seek to achieve.

Additionally, visualizing their ideal future can help clients clarify their goals and understand the steps needed to attain them. For example, envisioning the successful outcome of their medical school application and the life that follows can provide them with a clearer and more tangible goal.

Establishing trust is crucial in these interactions. Creating a nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable sharing their thoughts allows for more meaningful and productive conversations. By showing genuine interest and empathy, we build a strong rapport that enables clients to open up about their true feelings and goals.

Furthermore, understanding the client's individual motivations is essential. Each client has unique aspirations and values that drive them. Recognizing and aligning with these motivations allows for a tailored coaching approach, resonating deeply with the client and fostering a sense of trust and collaboration.

Through this process, clients are not only able to articulate their goals but also understand the underlying reasons for these aspirations. This deeper understanding enables them to pursue their goals with a clearer sense of purpose, leading to more fulfilling and sustained progress.

Let’s see if I can help you overcome your obstacles.
